Nancy O'Dell's career began in Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and reporter for news at WPDE-TV. Later, she was a the morning news anchor as well as a the crime reporter at WCBD TV. O'Dell's stories in Charleston concerning the lack of leniency by police regarding DUI cases prompted a State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. The result was state authorities issuing more strict rules in these instances. In the year 2000, Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell with her Best Report of the year Award for all South Carolina media. O'Dell was then employed by the Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV as an investigative journalist and anchor, prior to her joining Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. O'Dell anchors the main newscast at Access Hollywood. In addition she is a contributor to NBC News Today and Dateline NBC. She's covered the Academy Awards The Emmys The Grammys The Golden Globe Awards and co-hosted numerous pre-show arrivals show to The Emmys And The Golden Globes. In addition, she hosted the Miss USA pageant and the Miss Universe pageant.
